God told Noah to build an ark because this thing called "rain" was coming. He told him the exact dimensions the ark should be, what kind of wood to use, and how to make it watertight. Then God told Noah He would send pairs of animals, male and female, to get on board so he needed to pack enough to feed them and take care of them for a long time. So Noah put his trust in God and followed His instructions exactly.
This story about having one's own zoo to care for has always thrilled me. It would have been amazing to witness the spectacular miracle God performed keeping Noah, his family, and all of the animals safe inside the ark. After all, who would not want to cuddle with a baby elephant?
